Fundamentals of Faculty Advising at IPFW (CE)

Friday, January 19th from 12:30 – 2:30 PM in Neff 333
Facilitated by Michael Bendele (Psychology), Julie Hook (General Studies), Curt Hosier (Sociology), Irwin Mallin (Communication), Cassandra Bracht and Christa Van De Weg (Student Information Systems)

Understanding why advising matters, being able to guide students through an advising conversation, and being confident about the information we provide students are all central to a faculty member’s confidence and satisfaction in advising. In this half-day workshop, you will learn the conceptual, relational, and informational skills you need to do an effective job of advising. Registration is required.

Perspectives on Best Practices in Online Teaching (Session 1B)

Several leading faculty on our campus who have been teaching online will share some of their best practices.  

  • Presenters will be Carrie Stumph (BUS), Rachel Ramsey (NURS), Jeff Nowak (EDUC), Adam Dircksen (COM), and samples from John LaMaster (MATH).
  • Topics include getting off on the right foot (welcome video, course tour, introductions, etc.), best practices in video lectures, feedback on assignments, field trips and home-use kits in a hybrid course.

  • Topics include tests and quizzes, assignments, embedding information literacy and subject area librarians, and preventing plagiarism
