Kayla Klimasko

As a Career Counselor, Kayla is responsible for:

  • Meeting with students/alumni individually and through drop-in services to provide career assistance, such as résumé and cover letter development, job searching, choosing a major, career exploration, and interview preparation
  • Managing the office social media accounts to inform the IPFW and Fort Wayne communities about office services and upcoming events
  • Creating and presenting on career development topics to students in classrooms or through workshops
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising undergraduate student workers
  • Teaching undergraduate career development classes for undecided freshmen to explore major and career options
  • Developing and implementing initiatives to serve specific student populations, including international students, nursing majors, human services majors, education majors, and communication majors

Kayla serves as an At-Large Representative on the Administrative/Professional Staff Advisory Committee (APSAC), the APSAC Representative on the Mastodon Athletics Advisory Subcommittee (MAAS), and a Member of the Summerfest Planning Committee. She holds professional memberships in Career Development Professionals of Indiana, Inc. and the Ohio Career Development Association. In 2015, she participated as a Panel Member in the "First Generation Panel" at the Indiana Student Affairs Association conference and co-presented the “Tools Any Counselor Can Use” session at the Career Development Professionals of Indiana conference.

Kayla joined the Career Services team in April 2014 as a graduate intern and began as a Career Counselor in August 2015. She holds a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue University, Fort Wayne and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from California University of Pennsylvania. She is also certified to interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory assessments, and completed the Leadership Education Program Certificate from the University of Western Ontario.  

Kayla volunteers as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana and previously volunteered with the Northeast Indiana Human Resources Association. Additionally, she has several years of experience coaching youth soccer.
