Assistant Director of Career Development

As the Assistant Director of Career Development, Karen is responsible for the following:

  • Conducts outreach events and presentations, and assists with marketing
  • Coordinates the career development month in November and oversees the externship program
  • Trains, supervises, and manages an undergraduate career peer team of 4 students, and a graduate intern
  • Acts as the primary contact for collaboration with IPFW faculty in the Doermer School of Business
  • Provides general career counseling to students and alumni, including interpreting career assessments and choosing a major
  • Developed the IDIS 115 & EDUC x210 Career Planning course curriculums, trains new staff on teaching, and assists in teaching

Karen became part of Career Services in 2007, as a career counselor and obtained her current title in fall 2012. She received a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Bowling Green State University. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University with a major in Recreation and Tourism. She is a trustee, website administrator, and active member of National Employment Counseling Association. She is also active in Career Development Professionals of Indiana, American Counseling Association, American College Counseling Association and the National Career Development Association. She is also a licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Ohio. Karen is also qualified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, Strong Interest Inventory , FOCUS, Self-Directed Search, and Career Thoughts Inventory.
