FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science has been notified that continued accreditation of its computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs has been granted by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Inc. (ABET), abet.org. The civil engineering program, which was started in 2006, received its initial accreditation. This is the first time that program was eligible to go through the accreditation process.
Max Yen, dean of ETCS, said ABET’s accreditation “…is important to our students. It shows them we are committed to our programs giving them the right education, tools, and experiences to be successful as an engineer. It also allows those students who want to expand their horizons to seek professional licenses.”
According to the ABET website, the accreditations carry a lot of value for the students, program, and institution:
The EAC team conducted its site visit last October; ABET announced its decision a few days ago.
