College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science

Photo of Dean Max YenWelcome to the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science (ETCS).  ETCS is the home of four departments: Computer, Electrical and Information Technology (CEIT), Computer Science (CS), Engineering (ENGR), Manufacturing and Construction Engineering Technology (MCET); one division:  Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS); four Centers of Excellence:   Information Analytics and Visualization, Leadership Development, Systems Engineering, and Wireless Technology; and a K-12 Outreach Program.

ETCS consists of a team of dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to working with students and alumni to help build their capability and life-long career objectives through teaching, research, and services.  In addition, we want to include our students in partnership development with industry, regional economic development, and technology transfer through internship, co-op program, industrial mentorship, and study abroad.  This means that I expect our ETCS students to stay in school and complete a degree and see themselves transforming into a competent engineer or technologist as well as becoming a leader in their field of expertise.

ETCS carries the prestigious recognition of IPFW and offers Purdue BS and MS degrees in our engineering and technology program.  We are committed to keeping our engineering and technology programs accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology).  As a college, ETCS offers a very unique portfolio of curricula which address the fundamental engineering concept, real world technology application, and leadership and organizational skills to make things happen.  Adding to that, the Centers of Excellence offers research opportunities to faculty and students and allows us to advance knowledge in engineering and technology and to transfer it to our curriculum agenda.  I expect our centers of excellence to achieve national and international recognition through their innovation and scholarship.

ETCS will continue striving for excellence in teaching, research, and services.  In essence, we want to be an important element of the economic engine of Northeast Indiana by implementing our mission and fulfilling our goals through the following:

  • Nurture scholarship, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership through the delivery of curricula
  • Build problem solving and life-long learning skills through partnerships with industry and research
  • Foster the recognition of IPFW through national and international competition on innovation, research grants, scholarship
  • Provide global experience through study abroad and exchange programs

I encourage you to take a closer look at our website where you will see the quality of our programs, activities, and people.  And, I sincerely hope that you will find ETCS at IPFW is the right place for pursuing your studies and engaging in meaningful collaborations and partnerships.   We are committed to work with you so that we can earn your support.

Sincerely,

Max Yen, Ph.D.
