Dr. Suining Ding is a full professor at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne where she also is the director of Interior Design Program. Dr. Ding’s areas of expertise include environment-behavior studies in healthcare architecture, evidence-based design (EBD), design process and design methodology, digital 3D modeling, architectural graphic communications, and cross-cultural comparison of architecture.

Trained in architecture and interior design, and gained extensive practice experience in architecture, Dr. Ding is also a researcher and obtained her Ph.D. in Architectural Studies from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her doctoral studies focused on evidence-based design, the evolution of healthcare architecture, architectural design theory and philosophy of environmental design research. Dr. Ding holds the Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) professional certification, which validates that individuals have a core body of knowledge and experience necessary to lead and engage in an evidence-based design process for healthcare architecture. Dr. Ding’s work has resulted in numerous publications on teaching pedagogy, and scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals as well as presentations at national and international conferences. Dr. Ding has authored three peer-reviewed textbooks for Fairchild Books/Bloomsbury Publishing, which have been adopted by many universities across the country. These books are “Modeling and Visualization with AutoCAD,” “Sketching Interiors: from Traditional to Digital,” and “Photoshop for Interior Designers: a Nonverbal Communication.”

Dr. Ding attended The Ohio State University where she received Master of Arts degree in Interior Design. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Southeast University. Dr. Ding is a National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Certified Interior Designer. During her professional practice career, Dr. Ding participated in the design of many large-scale medical centers, assisted living facilities and office buildings. She is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

Dr. Ding currently serves as the Director of Regional Collaborative/Board of Director for the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). She served as Midwest Regional Chair from 2011 -2013.
