Dr. Samavati received her Ph.D. in Economics from Iowa State University in 1987.
Dr. Samavati's teaching interests includes statistics, economics of gender and race, money and banking, and microeconomics and macroeconomics.
Dr. Samavati's research is in the areas of economics of crime, and economic policy.
Under Dr. Samavati’s mentorship numerous students have conducted research and participated in academic research conferences such as Butler University Undergraduate Research Conference, Indiana University Undergraduate Research Conference, IPFW Student Research and Creative Endeavor Symposium, and The Midwest Business Administration Association Conference.
Dr. Samavati joined the Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne faculty in 1988 after serving one year at Knox College.
Dr. Samavati has been recognized for excellence in teaching with awards such as Indiana University Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) 1995, WebCT Digital Content Leader 2003, and the Delta Sigma Pi, Iota Lamda Chapter Professor of the Year award 2004-2005.
Dr. Samavati is a member of the Honor's Faculty at IPFW and a member of the Indiana University Faculty of the University Graduate School with Full Status. She is also the co-advisor of the Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Economics Honor Society.
