Centers for Academic Success and Achievement

Welcome to the Writing Center

The Writing Center is open for the Fall 2017 semester from Monday, August 28 - Friday, December 8. Our regular hours are:

Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm.
Friday 9:00 am - 6:00 pm
Saturday noon - 4:00 pm

We will be closed Wednesday, November 22 - Sunday, November 26 to allow our consultants the opportunity to enjoy IPFW's Thanksgiving Recess and celebrate the holiday with their families. We will reopen on Monday, November 30 at 9:00 AM.

We have moved into our new home in the Learning Commons on the second floor of Helmke Library! Our new home means expanded appointment availability, so please check TutorTrac for open appointment times. You can also check with the CASA Student Receptionist at the Learning Commons Desk to see if a consultant is free for a walk-in consultation.

Students can also submit email consultation requests online 24/7. Please allow 2-3 days for your submission to be returned. For more information, please visit our Online Consultation page.

If you have had an appointment in the Writing Center, we ask that you complete a survey to help us assess our effectiveness. You can find the survey at this link:

The mission of the IPFW Writing Center is to help writers learn to use language more effectively, produce clear writing appropriate to their purposes and audiences, and develop positive attitudes about writing and about themselves as writers.

Because we have a limited number of staff but serve all IPFW courses, we must enforce several policies:

  • Students may schedule one appointment per day, per class. If a student schedules more than one appointment per day for the same class, the first appointment of the day will be kept and all following Writing Center appointments for that class on the same day will be canceled.
  • Students may schedule up to three appointments per 6-day period, per class.
  • Due to appointment time constraints, we ask that students not plan to have more than 8-10 pages of text consulted on in a single appointment. If the paper is more than 10 pages long, please be prepared to provide a 10-page range of text to focus on during the appointment.
  • Graduate students must meet with graduate student consultants or undergraduate student consultants that have been approved for graduate work.
  • We do not provide transcription or dictation services.
