Scholarships and Awards

The following are scholarships and awards offered by the Women's Studies program at IPFW.

Marthe Rosenfeld/Mary Lee Richenson Scholarship

The Marthe Rosenfeld/Mary Lee Richeson Scholarship fund was established in 1993 to provide financial support to students conducting research in areas of Women’s Studies scholarship. Areas of research may include: women in science, women of color, lesbian studies, women with disabilities, and older women.

Two scholarships may be awarded each academic year. Lesbian studies is the designated area of research for one of the two scholarships available. Projects focusing on any of the other areas are invited, and will be considered for the second scholarship. Students who meet the following guidelines are encouraged to submit proposals.

Funds awarded may be used to cover necessary materials, services, and tuition payments as listed in the proposal budget.

Eligibility:

  • Junior or senior standing
  • Satisfactory completion of at least 12 credits in Women's Studies courses
  • In good academic standing, and enrolled in at least 3 credit hours at time of application
  • Pursuing a Women's Studies minor or major

Projects:

  • Research on any aspect of lesbian studies or other topic on women
  • Must result in a finished product (research paper, data set, dvd) that will be useful to others. It may not duplicate previous research
  • Student must have primary responsibility for conducting the research
  • Project must be sponsored by a full-time faculty member
  • Student and faculty member are encouraged to invite input from mentors at appropriate stages of the research

Proposal:

  • Describe project, action to complete it, and expected outcome
  • Provide evidence
  • Budget - May include class fees to enroll in WOST W495, other materials or services
  • Relevance

Criteria:

  • Originality, Significance and feasibiltiy of project
  • Clarity, organization, and documentation
  • Value to applicant's education and career goals

Deadline:

  • March, for funding to begin in Summer or Fall.

Joan Daley Uebelhoer Award

The Joan Daley Uebelhoer Award is given for excellence in Women's Studies courses, as well as translation of ideas into action on behalf of women through endeavors which emulate the achievements of this community leader, including::

  • creative endeavors
  • political activism
  • service projects

Linda C. Fox Merit Award

The Linda C. Fox Academic Award was established in Spring 2009 to honor the long time Director of the Women's Studies program. The funding for this award is generously donated by Friends of Women's Studies, Inc. Criteria established includes:

  • WOST Major
  • Junior or Senior class standing (60-100 credits overall)
  • 12 credit minimum in WOST or WOST cross-listed courses
  • GPA of 3.5 or above
