Opportunities
Study Abroad
Visual Communication and Design is proud to offer travel abroad opportunities. Through travel abroad, students can develop a hands-on understanding of culture, geography and life-styles that will have a lasting effect on their creativity, careers, and continuing personal growth. This is particularly critical for art students, whose conceptual developement will be enhanced by first-hand experiences with the artworks they have seen in books and the practicing artists of other countries. Most trips are eligible for credit and are arranged through Continuing Studies at 260-481-6619.

Educational Travel
IPFW students have a wide range of study abroad opportunities available to them through Indiana University and Purdue University. Students can choose among summer, semester, and academic-year programs in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America as well as Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Some programs are geared toward specific majors, such as business, public affairs, or engineering, while others are open to a wide range of majors. For many programs, prior knowledge of a foreign language is required; in other cases, the language of instruction is English, some programs allow opportunities for students to begin their study of another language during the program. Depending on the type of program, students will live with a family, in a dormitory, or in an apartment. Financial aid can be applied to study abroad. Special scholarships for regional campus students may be available.
Exhibition Opportunities
At each level of study, visual communication and design majors participate in campus exhibitions. From foundation level shows to exhibitions by graduating seniors, student work can be viewed throughout the Visual Arts Building. Additionally, faculty and other professional exhibitions provide a unique educational opportunity for all IPFW students, and faculty. Student artwork is permanently installed across campus. Students can supplement their growth through easy access to the many regional art galleries such as ArtLink and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Frequent trips to the Chicago Art Institute and other renowned museums, along with international art tours and study abroad, inspire students and faculty alike, and guest artists present special workshops and lectures for students, faculty, and the community.
An advantage of choosing programs sponsored by IU or Purdue is that the credits students earn will appear on their transcripts as Indiana University or Purdue University course work, not as transfer credit.
