The Ernest E. Williams Theatre, built in 1992 is home to the Department of Theatre’s offices, classrooms, library and it’s primary performance space. Seating 297, the fully handicap accessible Williams Theatre boasts a semi-thrust stage, scene shop, costume shop, rehearsal/dance studio, and dressing rooms. The theatre computer lab is housed in the VPA multimedia lab in the adjacent Visual Arts Building. 

Studio Theatre is a flexible black box space seating 150 patrons.  The theatre is located in Kettler Hall.  Studio Theatre recently underwent a $250,000 renovation that included:

  • 150 new, upholstered seats, fixed in place, yet easily arranged in a variety of configurations
  • Two separate entrance stairs with newly fabricated handrails
  • A handicap accessible, vertical, hydraulic lift
  • New intelligent, flexible lighting system including new dimmers and house lights
  • New hardware and theatrical communication software
  • A movable resilient dance floor

Library
The department maintains a collection of books, musical scripts, scores and videos, available for use by theatre students and faculty.  Books and scripts may be signed out for limited loans of a specified duration with a faculty signature only.  Library sign out forms are available through the department secretary.  Please note that musical scores and video materials do not circulate. 

Exciting Features for Patrons with Disabilities

The IPFW Department of Theatre continues to offer a variety of barrier-free services at both theatres such as accessible, close-in handicapped parking and spacious lower level seating for patrons.  We also offer:

Sign language interpreter services during all Thursday night performances in Williams Theatre. 

We offer the SoundMate® Personal Listening System, an assistive listening devices in the auditorium for patrons with hearing loss.

The box office provides a Text Telephone Device (TTD) that allows patrons who cannot speak or hear to make their own ticket reservations.  The direct TTD line is 260-481-4105.  The regular box office number is 260-481-6555 for any additional questions.
