Undergraduate Programs
Study Emphasis
All Department of Theatre degree programs offer a balanced blend of liberal-arts education, theatre core courses, and special studies in particular areas of interest.
Bachelor of Arts
The Bachelor of Arts program is for students who seek careers in theatre or theatre-related arts. All theatre bachelor's degree students complete a common core of theatre studies. Concentrations are available in acting, directing, design/technology and playwriting. Each concentration requires additional special courses.
Concentrations
Acting:
Students take courses in acting, movement, and voice, and pursue regular and special performance opportunities.
Directing:
Students study performance and staging techniques and theories that will communicate the directorial vision to an audience.
Design/Technology:
Students take courses in design, stagecraft, costume construction, and period styles. Students may also take area specific skill building courses, and pursue specialized design and/or technology projects.
Playwriting:
Students study both the writing process and dramatic literature within a performance context, working toward the realization of their work.
Minor in Theatre:
The theatre minor is available to all IPFW students who have an interest in theatre by completing 24 hours of specific theatre courses. Additionally, students acquiring a teaching certificate in other fields may earn a theatre minor by completing 24 specified credit hours in the department.
Minor in Dance:
The dance minor is available to all IPFW students by completing 15 credit hours of theatre dance courses and 3 credit hours of Dance History or American Musical Theatre.
