A Wonderful Time in Wonderful Town
Wonderful Town
The best way for John O’Connell, the new chair of the IPFW Department of Theatre to get to know his students is to work with almost all of them at once. The musical Wonderful Town, set in 1930’s New York City, with music by Leonard Bernstein, is the perfect production for an entire department, The show runs from April 25 – May 4.
Wonderful Town is a large musical extravaganza, where everyone in the department will have a role to play, either onstage or backstage. Two of the department’s most accomplished musical theatre actresses will be playing the roles of the Sherwood sisters, Ruth and Eileen, played on Broadway respectively by Rosalind Russell and Edith Adams.
Breona Conrad, playing Ruth, will work this summer at Tweetsie Railroad Co. in Blowing Rock, North Carolina as a part of their "world famous" clogging troupe and will return for a Christmas engagement at Bear Creek Farms. Jessica Butler, crowned Miss IPFW in Oct., will play her enthusiastic sister Eileen.
Both sisters, fresh off the bus from Ohio, arrive amid the bustling streets of New York City in 1935. Eager to take this Wonderful Town by storm, the two set out to make it big, fall in love, and live happily ever after in the Big Apple.
An expertly crafted musical comedy with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Comden and Green, Wonderful Town, with its zippy and harmonious score, celebrates New York as the magnet for young people to fulfill their greatest ambitions and lifelong dreams.
