Scholarships

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) offers awards and scholarships to students majoring in fine arts, music, theatre and visual communication and design. Awards may include grants, fee remission or work-study assistance. As recipients are selected by their respective departments, applicants should contact their department directly for information.

Music scholarship awards are made on the basis of the performance auditions, interview, placement tests and academic history. To be considered for music scholarships, new students must be accepted into the university in good standing. Returning students must have an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 and a music GPA of 3.0. Students will be reviewed annually for eligibility for scholarship renewal. All scholarship renewals are subject to availability of funds.

Initial eligibility is contingent upon music as the declared major and enrollment in at least 12 credit hours per semester. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are awarded for the academic year, provided that the criteria of the scholarship have been met. They are disbursed in two equal payments - one for the fall semester and the balance for the spring semester. After the initial award is made, criteria for continuance of performance-based scholarships include the following:

  • continuing to declare music as a major and making satisfactory progress toward a degree;
  • maintaining an overall minimum GPA of 2.5;
  • maintaining a 3.0 GPA in music courses;
  • earning a grade of C or better in all music courses required of the major; fulfilling any specific provision stated in the scholarship contract.

Scholarships for freshman music majors will require participation in only one major ensemble.
