Basso, Robert Allen Saunders, having earned an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from Marshall University and a Masters degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University Bloomington and the Doctor of Music in Voice, with an emphasis on performance and pedagogy, and minors in Music History and Early Music also from Indiana University Bloomington. Mr. Saunders studied with Professors Paul Kiesgen and Roy Samuelsen for modern voice, and Professor Paul Elliott for instruction in early vocal practices.

Mr. Saunders has also maintained an active performance schedule. Some of the opera roles performed for Indiana University Opera Theater include Bartolo in both Rossini's Barber of Seville and Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Claudius in Handel's Agrippina, The Doctor in Alban Berg's Wozzeck, Count Waldner in Richard Strauss' Arabella, and Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto. He has also performed professionally with the Indianapolis opera in the role of Sacristan in Puccini's Tosca, Doctor Bartolo for Indiana Opera North's production of Rossini's Barber of Seville, and Utah Festival Opera's productions of Verdi's La Traviata and Mozart's Magic Flute. In addition, in 2001, Mr. Saunders was the bass soloist in two performances of Mozart's Requiem Mass in Russia with the State Orchestra of Russia in Moscow and the St. Petersburg State Orchestra in St. Petersburg.  

Since joining the faculty of IPFW's music department in 2001 as the Coordinator of Studio Voice, he has been teaching private voice, song literature, vocal pedagogy, and diction in addition to directing the IPFW Opera Ensemble and performing on faculty recitals and with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
