Dr. Barbara Resch serves as an associate professor of music education as well as director of the music education program at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. She received her B.Mus. from Valparaiso University, and her M.F.A in musicology from Syracuse University. She also has a D.M.E. from Indiana University. While attending Indiana University, Dr. Resch studied with Mary Goetze, Jean Sinor, and Marilyn Keiser.
Dr. Resch has been a full-time instructor at IPFW since 1995 and regularly teaches the following courses: Introduction to Music Education, methods courses in choral and elementary music, and student teaching supervision.Dr. Resch previously taught music at IPFW as a part-time instructor and in the public schools of New York and Fort Wayne. One of her primary research interests is in teenagers' perceptions of music. She has presented this topic at regional and national conferences.
As well as being an active music education instructor, Dr. Resch conducts the St. Paul Lutheran Church and School children's choirs. She is a member of Music Educators National Conference, Indiana Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, American Orff Schulwerk Asociation, and the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. She is the editor of The Indiana Musicator, and serves on the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Education Committee and the Fort Wayne Children's Choir Advisory Board. She is certified in Kodaly Concept of Music Education (3 levels), and Orff Schulwerk (Level 2). Dr. Resch is also a member of the steering committee of the special interest group on preparation in active music-making approaches, a subcommittee of the Society for Music Teacher Education.
