Ms. Melissa Reinhardt currently serves as a continuing lecturer in music therapy at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. She received her B.M. in music therapy from Ohio University in 1992 and her MSEd in special education-mild disabilities from the University of Saint Francis in 2002.
She has been an instructor at IPFW since 2001 and teaches the following courses: Introduction to Music Therapy, Music and Exceptionality, Music Therapy Clinical Processes, Functional Music Skills, Music in Special Education and four levels of music therapy practicum. Prior to IPFW, Ms. Reinhardt was employed as Director of Music Therapy at the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center where she worked as a clinician, internship supervisor and clinical training director. Her interests include music therapy with autism, special education, and early intervention.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, Ms. Reinhardt is the past-president and member of Indiana Music Therapists, as well as a member of the American Music Therapy Association and is certified through the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Ms. Reinhardt has presented at several state and regional music therapy conferences on topics including age-appropriate activities for adults with MR/DD, Music Therapy Internships, using adaptive equipment in music therapy, developing assessments for adults with MR/DD and Orff Schulwerk applications for music therapy.
