David Cooke began his musical studies at the age of 9 in his hometown of Canton, Ohio. He received a B.M in trombone performance from The Ohio State University and an Masters of Music in trombone performance with an emphasis on orchestral conducting from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Mr. Cookehas performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He is principal trombonist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. In addition to his regular duties, he has performed as soloist on numerous occasions with the Philharmonic. Mr. Cooke studied conducting with Craig Kirchhoff, Harvey Benstein, Carl Topilow, Louis Lane, and J. Ted Wenger. He serves as conductor of the IPFW Community Orchestraand the Fort Wayne Summer Symphony. Mr. Cooke also conducted the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in several pops performances.

As a chamber musician, Cooke was the founding member of the critically acclaimed Cleveland Chamber Brass. He is a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Brass Quintet and the Fort Wayne Chamber Brass. Summer activities have included the Aspen Music Festival and the All-American College Symphony Orchestra, and he was a featured artist at the “June in Buffalo” Contemporary Music Festival. His trombone teachers have included James DeSano, Joseph Duchi, Ed Zadrozny, George Toot, Michael Powell, Frank Crisafulli, and Per Brevig. David is a member of the International Trombone Association and the American Federation of Musicians, local 58. He has served as instructor of trombone at IPFW since 1989.
