IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp & Festival

June 11-16, 2017 – Festival Events

 All events take place in Rhinehart Recital Hall and are free and open to the public

Opening Recital: Camp Faculty, solo piano and piano ensemble

The IPFW Gene Marcus Piano Camp and Festival will open with a recital by camp faculty members Christine Freeman, Dawn Hopkins, Joyanne Outland, and Hamilton Tescarollo. They will perform piano solo, piano four hands, and two-piano works by Barber, Chopin, Fauré, Milhaud, and Poulenc as well as a piece for two pianos, eight hands to conclude the program!

Guest Artist Recital: Kevin Ayesh, solo piano

Camp guest artist Kevin Ayesh has performed concerts and presented master classes throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Germany, and Hong Kong. Dr. Ayesh has served as the head of the Music Department at Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina since 1992. His program features Mozart’s Sonata in D Major, K. 311; Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue; and Chopin’s Sonata No. 3, Op. 58.

Guest Artist Piano Master class: Kevin Ayesh

Dr. Ayesh will work with camp students in a master class setting. Piano students and teachers, as well as members of the community in general, are welcome to attend.

Emerging Artist Recital: Mario Cervantes and Andrew Nesler, solo piano

Mario Cervantes has graduated from IPFW in May 2017 with degrees in both Piano Performance and Music Technology. Andrew Nesler is currently a junior at IPFW, pursuing a Piano Performance degree. They share a recital performing piano solo works such as sonatas by Beethoven, Liszt’s Tarantella, and Shchedrin’s Basso Ostinato, among others.

Emerging Artist Recital: Piano ensemble and collaborative piano

Pianists Mario Cervantes and Andrew Nesler will perform works for piano four hands (on one and two pianos) by Debussy, Rachmaninoff, and Stravisnky. Mario Cervantes will also collaborate with clarinetist Mark Townsend and cellist AJ Jabarin in Beethoven’s trio Op. 11, and Andrew Nesler will collaborate with soprano Brianna Gamble in works for voice and piano.

Emerging Artist Recital:
Hope Arthur and David Ling, piano duet and duo

Hope Arthur is a recent graduate of IPFW in the Piano Performance degree. She will collaborate with pianist and Fort Wayne Philharmonic violinist David Ling. Their program includes works by Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, Ravel, and Bolcom.
