Introduction

The process for processing and distributing student evaluations for faculty outlined below was prepared by the VPA Leadership Team.  The goals of the process are to provide the student comments and numerical evaluations to the faculty, chairs and dean in timely and efficient manner.  Recommendations to improve the process are invited.

The Student Evaluation Process
  1. Students complete the evaluation form, including their written comments during the last class meeting.
  2. Department secretaries type the comments within two weeks of receipt and prepare comment transcripts, without immediate distribution (please see step 8), for faculty member (one copy), chair (one copy), and dean (one copy).
  3. Department secretaries send evaluation forms to dean’s secretary for tabulation.
  4. Dean’s secretary sends forms to LRC for tabulation one week after completion of the semester.
  5. LRC sends four copies of the results to the dean’s secretary two weeks after completion of the semester.
  6. Dean’s secretary sends three copies of the tabulations to department secretaries.
  7. Dean’s secretary combines the comments and tabulations and files them in faculty folders in the dean’s office.
  8. Department secretaries send one copy of the tabulation and comments to the  faculty, and retain one copy in the department office in the faculty file for attachment to the next annual faculty productivity report.
  9. The department chair provides the dean with one copy of the faculty productivity report at the time of the merit recommendation to the dean.  The dean reviews the student evaluation forms and comments, which are available in the dean’s faculty files.
