The Reappointment Process

INTRODUCTION
The reappointment process begins with the request from the dean's office for the faculty to provide an updated productivity report to the department chair. The department chair prepares a recommendation and supporting narrative on the reappointment form.  The chair may choose to gather pertinent information from department faculty, students, or other persons with whom the faculty member has had significant professional contact. The chair then fowards the recommendation to the dean. Similar recommendations and narratives are provided sequentially by the Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, the Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs and the Chancellor. Tenure-Track Faculty Reappointments occur on the following timetable:


Year 1
     Early January        Reappointment form for Year 2 due to VCAA
     Early February      Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 2

Year 2
     Early October      Reappointment form for Year 3 due to VCAA
     Mid-November    Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 3
     Early March         Reappointment form for Year 4 due to VCAA
     Early May            Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 4

Year 3
     Early March         Reappointment form for Year 5 due to VCAA
     Early May            Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 5

Year 4
     Early March         Reappointment form for Year 6 due to VCAA
     Early May            Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 6

Year 5
     Early March         Reappointment form for Year 6 due to VCAA
     Early May            Faculty notified of reappointment decision for Year 7

Year 6
     Mid-September    Promotion & Tenure Case to Department Committee
     Mid-October        Promotion & Tenure Case to VPA Committee
     Mid-November    Promotion & Tenure Case to Campus Committee
     Mid-January         Promotion & Tenure Case to VCAA
     Late January         Promotion & Tenure Case to Chancellor
     Early February      Promotion & Tenure Case to IU or PU
     April                     Announcement of Boards' Actions on Promotion and Tenure Cases

Year 7
     August                  Tenured Appointment or Final Year Begins
