Student Successes

Spring 2009

Maria Coward won second place and Alex DeVinney-Stoner won third place in the Northeast Indiana College Student Art Exhibition at Manchester College in March 2008. The exhibition featured selected works by students from area universities and colleges and was juried by Charles Shephard, the executive director of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. Other IPFW students featured in the exhibition
included Rebecca Bailey, Willyum Baulkey, Holly Dowidat, Josh Hoering, Dan Schroeder, and Chase Wire.

Art education majors working in the local school systems developed lesson plans and taught students at Unity Lutheran Academy and Zion Lutheran Academy during fall 2008. Kandace Ehresman taught a charcoal-rubbing collage project; Dan Schroeder developed a color study project integrating art and mathematics; and Sachiko Janek designed a project to teach the history and design of Native American pottery.

In November, art education majors Chase Wire, Angela Grogg, and Christine Mathews, who attended the Art Education Association of Indiana conference in French Lick, Ind., hosted a round table discussion, “Three Arts Connections Projects,” a presentation on
lessons they taught in classrooms.

IPFW is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access University.
