Position title:

Digital Initiatives Librarian / Assistant Librarian

Type of appointment:

12 month; Tenure track

Area of Expertise:

Leadership in planning, developing, and implementing digital projects and in encouraging collaborative local, regional, statewide, and national digital initiatives.  Seek external grants to fund current and future digital initiatives.

Effective date:

July 1, 2009

Qualifications:

An A.L.A.-accredited master's degree in library or information science is required.  Minimum of three years academic library experience.  Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.  Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating library digitization initiatives.  Experience with cataloging and metadata schemas.  Familiarity with best practices for digitization, metadata, and archival storage.  Proven track record of developing collaborative projects among various library and campus units.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the creative use of current and emerging trends and technology.  Experience with CONTENTdm, DSpace, and Qualified Dublin Core preferred.  Familiarity with copyright issues as they relate to digitization projects.    Must have the ability to work in a team-based environment.  Must be able to meet the responsibilities of a tenure-track appointment by demonstrating focus, initiative, innovation, and impact in job performance, professional development, research and/or creativity and service. 

Duties/Special Duties:

Promote and market digital projects, assuring global access via WorldCat, the Indiana Memory Project, and similar services.  Manage and continue to develop mDON, the mastodon Digital Object Network that showcases IPFW's scholars, performers, athletes, academic and administrative units, community partners, and guests.  Work with subject liaison librarians to help seek new content.  Oversee the development of each collection to assure adherence to national and international standards.  Manage development of IPFW's institutional repository and other digital initiatives.  Work with IPFW community to establish policies and procedure and to promote the use of the repository.  Maintain and continue to develop iBidX, the bibliographic database of faculty scholarly and creative works, use of which is required of all faculty.  Oversee the university archives collection housed in the IPFW library and seek ways to improve access including digitizing important documents and preserving born-digital archival materials.

Position title:

Reference & Information Services Librarian / Assistant Librarian

Type of appointment:

12 month; Tenure track

Area of Expertise:

The librarian serves as liaison to the History, Political Science, and Anthropology Departments and serves as the coordinator of the Local, State, Federal, and International Government Documents program.

Effective date:

July 1, 2009

Qualifications:

An A.L.A.-accredited master's degree in library or information science is required.  Preference given to candidates with experience in academic library settings, especially in the areas of liaison assignments and government documents.  Must demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to work independently and in teams, ready knowledge of general reference resources, research tools in liaison areas, and government information, strong commitment to accurate, responsive information services, and desire for continuous learning and self-improvement.  Must have the ability to work in a team-based environment. Must be able to meet the responsibilities of a tenure-track appointment by demonstrating focus, initiative, innovation, and impact in job performance, professional development, research and/or creativity and service.  Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply and should highlight their potential for success in this position.

Duties/Special Duties:

Successful candidates will contribute substantially to the library's ongoing initiative to integrate public services, collections, and instruction in the dynamic environment of desktop information delivery.  Within areas of liaison assignments, responsible for evaluating, selecting, and using printed and electronic resources, planning and updating library Web pages, providing information and instructional services, and developing innovative services and user aids.  Will work closely with colleagues to develop outreach activities for students and faculty in liaison areas, contribute to projects associated with IPFW's mDON Mastodon Digital Objects Network as appropriate, teach and assess information literacy competencies in partnership with faculty, and develop, manage, and provide expertise in government documents.  Other duties may be assigned as needed.
