Dean, College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science and Steel Dynamics Distinguished Professor of Engineering

Type of appointment:

12 month (administrative only)

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A PhD in engineering or related discipline;
  • Qualified for tenure at the rank of full professor in engineering or related discipline;
  • Experience in university administration, preferably three to five years at the Department Chair level or higher;
  • Is a person of ideas and vision who thinks creatively and acts strategically;
  • Has a proven track record in teaching and research, with industry experience desired;
  • Has experience and is enthusiastic about marketing and fund raising opportunities for ETCS;
  • Possesses strong financial and decision making skills;
  • Is an effective communicator and possesses a collaborative management style;
  • Is student oriented; and
  • Has the potential to work with and form partnerships with the community and regional industries

Duties:

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide a vision and administer a college consisting of five departments, an Army ROTC program, 54 full-time faculty, 50 part-time faculty, and over 1800  students;
  • Manage a budget of nearly $6,000,000;
  • Support and encourage excellence in teaching, research, and service among the faculty;
  • Build public and private partnerships with community leaders, alumni, and regional industries;
  • Attract external support for the college in support of students, faculty, technology, and programming;
  • Advocate on behalf of the college to the central administration of IPFW;
  • Promote the college to future students, external constituents, and the public at large;
  • Develop and direct the college’s strategic plan, including new curriculum and programs as needed;
  • Maintain a collegial, professional, and ethical work environment that values and respects shared governance;
  • Promote interdisciplinarity;
  • Maintain, develop, and expand several Centers of Excellence in the college;
  • Attract and retain a diverse faculty;
  • Support K-12 initiatives and outreach

Description of the college:

The College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science (ETCS) is one of seven colleges, schools, or divisions in the university.  The Dean, who reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, administers a college consisting of the departments of Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology & Information Systems and Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Manufacturing & Construction Engineering Technology and Interior Design, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision.  Purdue University grants all ETCS degrees. The departments offer 9 certificates, 8 associate degrees, 13 bachelor degrees, and Master of Science degrees in applied computer science, engineering, technology, and Organizational Leadership and Supervision.  All engineering and engineering technology programs have CAC-ABET, EAC-ABET or TAC-ABET accreditation.  The college administers the Military Science Program (ROTC) and houses four Centers of Excellence: the Center for the Built Environment (CBE), the Center for Industrial Innovation and Design (CIID), the IPFW Center of Excellence in Systems Engineering (ICESE), and the Wireless Technology Center.  Most departments are housed in the Engineering and Technology building, a modern facility constructed in 1992. The college hosts the Indiana FIRST Lego® League Championship Tournament, Indiana Regional Future City® Competition, Regional Science and Engineering Fair, a variety of Exploration Camps, and other similar endeavors. The ETCS enrolls approximately 1800 majors, has 54 full-time faculty and 50 part-time faculty, and interacts extensively with diverse local industries.
