Mission

Parent council is a forum that provides parents the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss issues that are pertinent to the well being of their student. In addition, parents are informed on a monthly basis in regards to academic events that have occurred in the past month and to upcoming events.

Parents are able to be kept informed of their child’s progress and areas in which parents can assist with their student’s academic skills and improvement. Parents will have the opportunity to assist the Upward Bound program in raising additional funds through fundraising opportunities. As well Upward Bound hosts a variety of parties and banquets throughout the year, in which parent volunteers help to guarantee overall success of these events. These opportunities are not mandatory.

There are no committees to join and no projects to complete, just important information to be passed along.

The mission of parent council is to provide an opportunity for parents to stay connected and informed with the Upward Bound family.

Goal of Parent Council

The Upward Bound staff strongly believe that parental involvement has a large influence on the social and academic development of their child. When parents and families are involved, children succeed because they know they have a strong support team behind them.

In addition to parents volunteering, the main goal of the Upward Bound Parent Council is to keep parents informed. Parents often feel misinformed because they do not have direct communication with their student about what is taking place at Upward Bound. In order to eliminate this, Parent Council allows parents the chance to be kept up to date on important matters including: Academic Theme Saturdays (ATS), tutoring, College Visits, Cultural Events, and other events.

We at Upward Bound, hope that this Parent Council will provide you with the opportunity to show you, how important your involvement is to your child and their achievement of success beyond high school years.
