014--Blended Learning International
Presented by: James Lengel, University of Nantes

hTech** is a higher education program currently under development that blends online and face-to-face learning in an international context. hTech is aimed at the education of engineers, but its educational concepts can be applied to many other fields. It is designed for students living in foreign countries, such as China. This paper describes the four dimensions of the project: its overall strategy and politics, its unique pedagogical issues, its technical aspects, and its management.

The four aspects of this project are applicable and reusable in a variety of ways. Each of the bricks of content, for instance, can be used by hTech professors not only in their online work, but with their regular university students as well. The bricks can also be re-assembled to build new modules, or to provide content for continuing education programs. The pedagogy and the delivery platform can be used in fields far beyond engineering, and for purposes other than the delivery of a master’s degree.

The presentation of this paper will conclude with a demonstration of the hTech online learning modules, and a walk through the web site that explains the content and operation of the program.
