Scholarships Available for DPEA Students
Division of Public and Environmental Affairs (DPEA) Outstanding Scholar Award
Who Qualifies?
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student in the IPFW Division of Public and Environmental Affairs.
- Based on merit. Preference will be given to those students who have taken sufficient classes in the core and concentration or major to demonstrate outstanding abilities in the field of public and environmental affairs.
Important Dates
- Submit your name to Dr. Jane A. Grant, chair of the SPEA scholarship committee, by March 1.
What does the Scholarship Cover?
- Fees and tuition as funds are available.
Dr. C. James and Susan Owen Trust Scholarship
Who Qualifies?
- This scholarship is offered to IPFW students studying for careers in public service (e.g., government, civil service, public health care, criminal justice, etc.). Full time graduate students and undergraduate students who will have attained junior status by the beginning of the fall semester in which the award begins are eligible to apply.
- The winner of the scholarship will be chosen on the basis of merit.
Important Dates
- In order to apply, students will need to fill out at an application (available in NF 260 by March 1) and submit it to the DPEA office, with necessary references, by April 1.

Paul Helmke School of Public and Environmental Affairs Scholarship
Who Qualifies?
- The junior class recipient must have attained junior class standing by the beginning of the fall semester in which the award begins. This award may be renewed for one additional year based on satisfactory progress in the student's degree program. One award will be made for a student of senior standing.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
- The recipient is expected to enroll for at least six credit hours in each of the semesters in which they receive the scholarship.
- To apply, submit a two page (double-spaced, typed) essay discussing how this scholarship and your SPEA education will help you to contribute to public and community service in a manner that emulates the values of public and community service that have marked the career of Paul Helmke, former mayor of the City of Fort Wayne.
- The award is merit based.

- Submit your essay to Dr. Jane A. Grant, chair of the SPEA scholarship committee, no later than March 1.
What does the Scholarship Cover?
- This $1,200 scholarship will be applied toward tuition and fees. One award will be made to a student of junior standing and may be renewed for one additional year based on satisfactory progress in the student's degree program. One award will be made for a student of senior standing.
