Student/Advisor Responsibilities in the First Year

 

Student Responsibilities
Before SOAR


Your advisor expects you to:

 

  • Activate your myIPFW account and begin checking e-mail, which is your official source of communication at IPFW. (http://my.ipfw.edu)

 

  • Take your placement tests.
    • Schedule a math placement test on campus by calling (260) 481-6600.
    • Complete the self-placement writing assessment, and look up your reading placement online. (www.ipfw.edu/testing)

Your advisor expects you to:

 

  • Bring placement test scores .

  • Know user name and password from myIPFW.

  • Bring any questions you might have about your degree program and IPFW.

  • Be prepared to actively participate in the orientation and advising process.

  • Make contact with you and provide information about how to contact your department.

You can expect your academic unit to:

 

  • Provide you with information about IPFW, your degree program, and your advising office.

  • Assist you with any challenges with your transitioning into college.

  • Advise you about courses and course sequencing appropriate for your first semester and beyond.

  • Assist the student with monitoring academic progress.

  • Be a knowledgeable resource for information on university-wide academic regulations and degree requirements.

  • Provide guidance as you register for your first semester classes.


* The advisor you meet at SOAR may not be your assigned advisor.
