Center for Women and Returning Adults
http://www.ipfw.edu/cwra/

As an adult student, you will face the challenge of balancing multiple roles and commitments. Yet, your experience, motivation and focus will assist you in achieving your goals. Take the time to get to know your professors and others on campus who can help make a difference. We welcome you to one of the most challenging and rewarding times of your life and encourage you to take advantage of all of the student services and opportunities that IPFW has to offer.

The Center for Women and Returning Adults (CWRA) welcomes you to IPFW. We provide a continuum of services directed toward an extremely diverse subculture within the campus community. The nature of our services extends beyond the campus or student life spectrum into the life-planning arena that is specific to non-traditional students or individuals and family members.

The center advocates for returning adults by providing academic, financial, and personal guidance, while simultaneously familiarizing them with the network of services available on campus. Childcare, housing, financial and domestic abuse issues also require that our services be directed from the campus to the community.

Visit the CWRA web site for more information and to keep current with the center's programs, events, and services geared specifically towards your needs.

eLearning

Practically any modern computer with a dial-up modem or DSL or cable connection and a reasonable amount of disk space, processing speed and memory can be used for eLearning. However, DSL or cable is preferred over dial-up and the more processing speed and memory you have, the faster the system will upload and download information and move from page to page. Some students have reported problems or frustrations taking tests in eLearning from dial-up connections due to the large size of some testing databases.

If attended to before class starts, the following important "tune-up" steps for your web browser will reduce the amount of time you have to spend on technological issues.

The first step is to turn off all pop-up blocking, spy ware and ad ware. If you are using this software, including anti-virus and firewall software, search through the software's menu functions to deactivate any pop up blocking functions during an eLearning session. More information on browser pop-up blockers is available here.

The second step is remove all specialized search toolbars from your browser menu. Instructions for doing this can be accessed by clicking here.

The third step is to actually "tune-up" your browser. Instructions for tuning up Internet Explorer and other browsers can be found here.

Additional troubleshooting information is available here.

A series of short video tutorials about eLearning are available here. In addition, eLearning is a topic covered by STEPS - free technology workshops for IPFW students. More information about STEPS is available here.
