Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration

It is an exciting time to be at IPFW and your choice couldn’t be better!

The first step toward your academic success is to attend SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration) and Freshmen Fest. At SOAR you will learn about IPFW, receive academic advising, register for classes and much more.

Is is mandatory that you attend SOAR to register for classes. When scheduling your SOAR date, keep in mind that the earlier you attend SOAR, the better course availability you will have for your fall class schedule.

SOAR check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m. in the Walb Student Union and will run all day (8 hours), so please plan accordingly. Below is a SOAR checklist. Use this as a resource to ensure you are prepared and make a smooth transition to IPFW.

SOAR Checklist

  1. Apply to IPFW and be admitted.
  2. If you are interested in living on campus, contact Student
    Housing     at 260-481-4180.
  3. Activate your my.IPFW account. Login to my.IPFW and familiarize yourself with its features.
  4. Visit the Orientation and Placement channel on the Enrollment tab and follow the links to:
    1. Complete your Writing Guided Self-Placement, view your Reading Placement and schedule your Math Placement. All placements must be completed at least 24 hours in advance of your SOAR date.
    2. Register for SOAR and Freshmen Fest.
  5. Check my.IPFW and your IPFW e-mail at least weekly for important announcements.
  6. Attend SOAR.
    1. Bring your confirmation, placement scores and your my.IPFW username and password.
    2. Bring a government issued photo ID.
    3. Learn about IPFW, meet with an academic advisor and register for classes.
  7. Watch your IPFW e-mail for your E-bill. Pay tuition and fees or make arrangements for a payment plan by the published deadline.
  8. Attend Freshmen Fest.
