Java Errors or Blank Screen
The steps below will help you completely remove Java from your PC and then reinstall it. You will need access to the Internet and administrative rights on your PC to follow these steps.
Uninstalling Java Components
- Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser
- Click Start > Control Panel
- Depending on your OS or configuration, you may have to click Start > Settings > Control Panel
- Open Add or Remove Programs
- If you have Windows 98 or Windows 2000, open Add/Remove Programs
- Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name
- Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
- Follow steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java
- Reboot your PC once all Java components have been removed
- Proceed with reinstalling Java
Reinstalling Java Components
- Go to http://www.java.com
- Click "Free Java Download" at the top of the screen (green
rectangular button) - You may be prompted to allow the Active X Control to run (a
cream colored bar that appears just underneath the
URL of the page). If you are prompted for this, click
the cream colored bar and select "Install ActiveX Control".
Otherwise, click Install when asked if you want to
install this software. - Click Accept
- Uncheck the box to install the Google Toolbar and click Next
- Click Finish
