Overview Survey of International Software Engineering Academic Programs |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| According to data from an international survey, sponsored jointly by ACM / IEEE-Computer Society, over 7900 students are enrolled in software engineering degree programs in 11 countries, as of October, 2002. Nearly 120 academic programs in software engineering are in place at 75 universities with 480 full-time faculty and nearly 200 part-time faculty teaching hundreds of undergraduate and graduate courses in the discipline. Nearly 6800 people have obtained degrees in software engineering since 1979. The authors listed below have conducted the first of an ongoing annual survey of international academic software engineering programs. This web site will provide a continually updated source of information about the results of the surveys, as well as possible future directions. For those of you who have not yet completed a survey, a copy is given for you to fill out and return to the first author. The numbers above probably represent about 40-50% of all active Software Engineering programs, simply because we have not found a way to reach all of the universities world-wide who offer such programs. Your help is absolutely vital to making this survey more comprehensive, and hence useful. Thank you! Considerably more detail is given by other links on this website. The sabbatical of the first author involved the initial development of an "International Software Engineering University Consortium" (ISEUC). ISEUC (pronounced "I See, You See"), composed of a subset of responders to the survey who use asynchronous distance learning in SE, is slated to begin initial operations in September, 2003, based on the results of personal visits to over 30 universities world-wide. These results are given at the "Consortium" node on the side bar. We are very anxious to have this web-site meet your needs, so please feel free to let us know how it can be improved, by sending e-mail to the first author at modesitk@ipfw.edu.
