Subject:            Athletics Report for 2005

Date:                December 12, 2005

In response to SD 03-19, I am providing the enclosed report.  The report generally follows the structure of the information request, with some adjustments to simplify the presentation of the information.

Some highlights from last year and this fall are shown below:

IPFW=s men=s basketball attendance for the first three home games this fall increased by 25% over last year=s first three home games.  This average attendance of 3,241 would rank in the upper half of either the Mid-Con or Horizon conferences.

IPFW=s women=s volleyball attendance increased 70% over last year=s totals.

The softball, tennis, cross-country, and track teams earned All-Academic honors last year.

Attendance at last year=s Soccer Showcase topped 15,000, with a community economic impact of more than $500,000.  This year, with both men=s and women=s defending national champions participating in the event, attendance topped 16,500.

The AMini Dons@ youth soccer program was expanded this fall to more than 400 participants.  The program won the Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy award.

The men=s soccer team became an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference this fall.

The women=s volleyball team finished its 2005 season with a 24-6 record and ranked in the top quarter of Division I teams.
