Educational Policy Committee Minutes
January 30, 2009
Present: Bruce Abbott, Iskandar Hack, Jay Jackson, Patrick McLaughlin (ex officio), Glenda Moss, Audrey Ushenko. Absent: Dr. William McKinney (ex officio)
Dr. Glenda Moss opened the meeting began at 2:30 p.m.
Minutes from January Email actions were approved.
Dr. Iskandar Hack moved that Dr. Peter Iadicola serve on EPC for the remainder of the spring 2009 semester. Dr. Audrey Ushenko seconded. Motion passed, and Dr. Peter Iadicola’s name will be presented to the Senate for approval to replace Dr. Jonathan Tankel for the spring 2009 semester.
New Business
Patrick McLaughlin presented a copy of the IUPUI faculty withdrawal policy and will send a copy to each member of EPC.
Patrick McLaughlin informed EPC that the Administrative Withdrawal Policy process/practice has been revised. A document outlining the process is forthcoming.
Patrick McLaughlin informed EPC that the Family Education Rights and Practices Act has given notice concerning the university’s responsibility to students with regard to notifying them when functions are outsourced. A revised practice of notifying students is being developed.
Meetings were set for Fridays from 2:30-3:30 on the following days: February 13 and 27, March 20, April 3 and 24, May 8.

Committee elected Tankel and Moss as co‑Chairs. Moss will take over as sole Chair as of the
Spring Semester.
The Committee continued
discussion about the newly implemented Plus‑Minus grades in response to
the draft memo prepared by Tankel. The discussion concluded with agreement that Tankel will revise the memo as per the discussion.
Question about Administrative
Withdrawal postponed until the next meeting.

Absent (due to schedule conflict): Hack, I.
The Committee postponed the election of a permanent Chair for Academic Year 2008‑9.
The Committee discussed the confusion that some faculty and students have about the newly implemented Plus‑Minus grades. The Committee concluded that a memo of clarification should be prepared for distribution under the authority of both the Educational Policy Committee and the Office of Academic Affairs. Member were urged to submit suggestions for possible wording of that memo.
