Subcommittee on Academic Advising

59 minutes

August 28, 2000

Present: Herbrand, Agness, Owen, Foley, Hook, Nietzel, Gagle, Clevenger, Loomis, Bruening

Frank Borelli discussed potential changes in payment deadlines, advising times, and designations for coming semesters. Those present were unanimous in their enthusiasm for the proposed schedule changes. The effect will be a payment deadline about a month later than previously (for spring semester), change in nomenclature to separate advising from the registration process and eliminating "concentrated registration" times which had extended office hours until 6:30pm or later.

Elaine Foley raised questions re ASTRO and its function, which has been an "information orientation" for adults who are admitted and registered for classes. There was sufficient interest in discussing this further such that the chair will invite Robin Newman, who administers ASTRO, to the September 11 meeting.

Julie Hook distributed a resource guide, "Get Connected Now," a guide to campus student services. It will be revised and updated in October; other units are welcome to make use of it. Julie also indicated, based on her investigation, that at a departments' request, Admissions will accept (as undistributed) courses for IPFW academic programs that transfer from Ivy Tech. Each department must determine how and if to distribute that credit. She also asked for copies of all material, mailed or handed out to prospective/enrolled students by our departments or units. Please forward directly to Julie Hook's office.

The next meeting will be held on Monday September 11 at 11:00am in Kettler 101.
