calendar formula.

Cothern emailed to members of the subcommittee was noted.

Minutes of the Calendar Subcommittee
Friday, December 10, 1999
Subcommittee Members Present:
K. Browne, L. DeFonso, E. Leonard, J. Moore, D. Pfeffenberger, N. Wunrow
Discussion:
-
E. Leonard presented a proposed fall calendar for AY 2002-2003. Discussion
changed to other options, such as shorter calendar but with longer class
periods. Objective: better utilization of room space.
-
Some questions arose about class contact hour requirements, but group decided
not to disturb this issue. Whatever new calendar is adopted will adhere
to same contact hours as we presently use.
-
Tentative calendar that features shorter semester but with same contact
hours:
Fall: Start Tuesday after Labor Day with full week off for thanksgiving.
No fall break unless naturally fits in.
Spring: Since commencement is already booked for several years in advance,
the semester will have to end no later than current schedules, preferably
a little earlier. Semester will start one week later than usual with full
week off for spring semester.
In both scenarios, we will lose a Monday, Labor day in fall and MLK
day in spring.
-
K. Browne, L. DeFonso, J. Moore will examine different alternatives for
class times within the framework of the tentative calendar above. They
will report at next meeting.
-
Committee scheduled next meeting on Friday, January 14, 12:30 p.m.,
Neff 355. At that time the committee will also discuss more convenient
meetings times for the spring semester.
