The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.

The committee discussed and approved a moratorium on General Education Course
submissions effective at the end of this semester.  J Clausen will notify the 
university community.

The committee continued its discussion of the assessment of the General 
Education program and courses. 

The meeting adjourned sometime before 10:00 a.m.

The following courses were approved: Area III: ANTH E105 Culture and Society Area VI: GEOL G305 Understanding Wetlands Area VI: LING L303 Linguistic Analysis The committee continued its discussion of the assessment of the General Education program and courses. The meeting adjourned sometime before 10:00 a.m.
General Education Subcommittee October 13, 1997 Members Present: S Argast, H Broberg, J Clausen, M Downs, P Iadicola, R Manalis, S Sarratore Members Absent: C Champion The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. The committee approved the minutes of the meeting of October 6 with the following correction later discovered by the chair: ENG L399 Postmodernism in Literature and the Arts has not yet been approved. The following courses were approved: Area VI: HIST 373 History of Science and Technology I The committee began its discussion of the assessment of the General Education program and courses. Committee members were charged to consider and propose various appropriate assessment measures. The next meeting has been scheduled for October 20 at 9:00 a.m. in FA 110 (note room change). The meeting adjourned sometime before 10:00 a.m.

The committee discussed how it wanted to proceed, and then proceeded. S Sarratore was elected committee chair. The committee discussed its charge and its history. Several new course proposals have been received and will be discussed at the next meeting.
