MEMORANDUM TO: The Senate FROM: Faculty Affairs Committee DATE: March 18, 1990 SUBJ: Sale of Complimentary Textbooks DISPOSITION: Upon approval, to the presiding officer for implementation Whereas, the sale of solicited and unsolicited textbooks to book stores and book buyers tends to increase the price paid for textbooks by students and reduces royalties received by colleagues who write textbooks; Therefore Be It Resolved, that it is the sense of this body that the sale of solicited and unsolicited textbooks to book buyers and book stores for personal profit should be strongly discouraged; and Be It Further Resolved, that faculty are encouraged to donate unwanted examination copies to libraries, to students, or to other agencies actively concerned with promoting educational purposes.
