Resolved, that the Senate replace SD 82-8 (Concerning Faculty
       Absences) with the attached policy statement




        Concerning Faculty Use of Assigned Classroom Time
                                
                                
The use of assigned classroom time for extra-classroom activities
is an instructor's prerogative. Like other instructional
strategies, such use should be assessed according to department
standards of teaching effectiveness through customary faculty and
administrative reviews of faculty performance.

Instructors who are unable to meet scheduled classes are expected
to notify their department and to follow any other absence
policies established by their school or department.
