Apportionment and Election of Senators

Apportionment
The School of Business and Management Sciences will apportion Senate
seats in the following manner:

a. One Senate seat for each department

b. One Senate seat for the chief academic officer of the School (as provided
for in the Fort Wayne Faculty Constitution)

c. The remaining allotted Senate seat(s) designated as at-large Senate
seats to be filled by and from the voting faculty of the School.

Eligibility
Eligibility for Senate seats and for casting votes for Senators shall
be governed by the Constitution of the Faculty. The Senate Secretary shall
distribute a list of voting faculty in the School and the affiliated departments.

Departmental Elections
Each department shall elect their Senator according to generally accepted
principles of democratic representation.

School Elections
The School of Business and Management Sciences service committee (or
similarly constituted School committee) shall conduct the election for
at-large Senate seat(s). The slate shall be composed of nominees from eligible
faculty members.
The at-large Senate seat(s) shall be filled by a general election among
the voting faculty of the School. This election shall be conducted by the
standard secret ballot mail procedure.
When vacancies occur simultaneously, the departmental elections shall
precede the School election.

Elections to Fill Vacancies
Vacancies which occur during a Senator's term shall be filled as follows:
a. Department Senate seat vacancies shall be promptly filled by the
department as described in Item 3 above. If a department is unable to fill
its Senate seat within four semester weeks of its vacancy or by March 28
for the annual apportionment, the seat shall become an at-large seat for
the remainder of its term
b. Vacancies in at-large Senate seats shall be filled by a general
election in accordance with item 4 above.
c. An at-large or department Senate seat may be considered vacant due
to the Senator's excessive absence from Senate meetings.
