Vacancies in Senate seats apportioned to the Library shall be filled by a general election among the voting faculty in the Library. Voting will be by secret, written ballot. All voting faculty in the library will be eligible to run for the Senate. During a regularly scheduled librarians' meeting, all those eligible individuals interested in running will have their names placed on a ballot. The Library director will be responsible for distributing the ballots, collecting and counting the votes, and announcing the elected representative. The candidate with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner.
A vacated Senate seat must be filled within four weeks of its vacation. Names of incoming Senators shall be made known to the Secretary of the Senate by March 15. In the case of a Senator vacating the seat before his/her term has ended, the nomination and election procedures described above will be followed, and the newly elected Senator will serve for the remainder of that Senate term. The name of the new representative shall be sent to the Secretary of the Senate immediately after this election.
When an election results in a tie, a run-off election between the two
candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be held.
