(Via - Student Affairs Committee)
FROM Subcommittee on Athletics
SUBJECT- Women's soccer
DATE: October 23, 1995
DISPOSITION: To the Presiding Officer for implementation

WHEREAS:

  1. The GLVC has expanded to eleven institutions and may expand to twelve next year, and
  2. Eight of the eleven currently have women's soccer as a varsity sport, and
  3. Two of the other three have plans to start this sport in the next year or two, and
  4. The IPFW Athletic Strategic Plan of two years ago called for this sport to be our next varsity endeavor, and
  5. The GLVC will most likely add women's soccer to the conference sports by the beginning of the 1996 year, and
  6. Gender equity issues continue to be a strong consideration for all Division I and II institutions, and
  7. Girl's soccer is a strong sport in Indiana, especially in the IPFW service region, which should allow for good recruiting.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
  1. Planning be instituted that will allow IPFW to add the varsity sport of women's soccer, and
  2. Women's soccer should be ready for its inaugural season with the start of the 1997-98 academic year at the latest, and
  3. IPFW will have this as one of its GLVC sports.
