Subject Campus-wide Acceptance of CLEP Credit

Disposition: To the Presiding Officer for implementation
 
WHEREAS, IPFW desires to attract students who are sufficiently motivated to take College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests at the time of admission and sufficiently qualified to pass them; and

WHEREAS, many colleges and universities, including the main campuses of both Indiana University and Purdue University (see attached spreadsheet entitled AComparison of Policies on Acceptance of CLEP Credit@ - for reference only), accept CLEP credit for a broad range of courses; and

WHEREAS, IPFW accepts, without review, transfer credit from such colleges and universities; and awards for performance on nationally administered examinations.

RESOLVED, that the Senate adopt the following policy on Acceptance of CLEP Credit:

  1. The Senate encourages departments to establish credit awards for satisfactory or better performance on CLEP examinations.

  2. The Senate encourages departments to give proper consideration to credit recommendations which are made by ACE and validated through examination of student performance.

  3. The Senate supports the publication of departmental decisions on the acceptance of CLEP credit as one means of attracting qualified students to the campus.

  4. The Senate asks the Admissions Office to coordinate the process of annual verification of departmental decisions about credit awards, culminating in the publication of the composite results.
