Subject: Amendment of the Academic Regulations (SD 85-18): Midterm Grades

Disposition: To the Presiding Officer for implementation
WHEREAS, the Academic Advising Subcommittee has adopted a resolution of support for the use of midterm grades as proposed by the Retention Committee of the Enrollment Management Committee; and
WHEREAS, early intervention has been shown to be an effective means of improving retention; and
WHEREAS, the assignment of midterm grades for first-year students is one means of identifying students who may benefit from an academic assistance program or other support;
RESOLVED, Senate Document SD 85-18 (Academic Regulations) be amended as enclosed, with italicized language inserted and strike-out language removed.

6.0 GRADES
The student is responsible for the completion of all required work in each course, by the time of the last scheduled meeting of the course or other deadline set by the instructor, unless the student has officially withdrawn from the course, or unless the student and the instructor have agreed that a grade of Incomplete will be assigned.
6.2 Midterm and semester grades. The following grades
may be assigned:

6.5 Midterm and final grade reports.
6.5.2 Each student's complete record for the session and the student's cumulative GPA shall be reported to the student, to the student's major department, and to the student's school/division.
