A brief summary of ACITAS activities:

 

  • ACITAS members were introduced to ACELINK and the broadband Allen County Education Network also known as ACENet.  Committee members were invited and encouraged to participate in the development of potential new content for ACELINK.

 

  • Committee members received a preview of Macromedia Breeze and supported the premise for the pilot project during spring 2006.

 

  • Several new instructional technology applications and tools were reviewed and discussed by committee members including the following:

E-Instruction (student response system) plug-in feature available through WebCT.

OneSearch (online multiple databases search tool) available from Helmke Library's homepage.

OpenMind 2 (brainstorming and concept mapping software) available on the campus network.

Turnitin (online plagiarism detection tool) available through WebCT.

 

  • ACITAS has several members currently serving and providing input to the IPFW Instructional Technology Strategic Plan Steering Committee.

By the end of the academic year SCOA will have done the following:

 

1)         Approved 4 teams entering into conferences:

 

                  Women's soccer - United Soccer Conference

                  Men's soccer - Mid-American Conference

                  Women's basketball - United Basketball Conference

                  Men's basketball - United Basketball Conference

 

2)         Dealt with 2 student-athlete eligibility appeals

 

3)         Written out a formal process for student-athlete eligibility appeals (which will appear in the student-athlete handbook next year).

 

4)         We have approved the schedules for the fall sports and as soon as the winter and spring sport schedules have been put together, we will evaluate them as well.

 

5)         As soon as the budget is put together, we will go through it and make a report to Mark Pope.

The Curriculum Review Subcommittee met to review the proposal for the Certificate in Civic Education and Public Advocacy submitted by the Department of Political Science. The Subcommittee also met several times to review the proposal for the Informatics Minor submitted by the Department of Computer Science. The Educational Policy Committee has examined a number of issues this year.  The major work consisted of the following.

 

1.  Developed the Pedagogical Framework for the IPFW Baccalaureate Degree (SD 05-8 and accompanying SR 05-16 and SR 05-17).

 

2.  Clarified Final Exam Policy (Academic Regulations)

 

3. Reviewed and rejected General Education Subcommittee proposal to modify Area VI definitions based on concerns about use of transfer courses.

 

4. Reviewed various proposals concerning Academic Regulations (including grade forgiveness policies).

 

5.  Reviewed AOC Course/Program Scheduling and Delivery Committee proposals

 

6.  Routine annual business (including Academic Calender).

 

7.  Responded to proposed General Education Requirements for Baccalaureate Degrees at Indiana University

General Education Subcommittee

Year-End Report to Senate

The General Education Subcommittee (GES) has completed the following during the 2005-2006 Academic Year.

 

Seven course proposals have been considered and approved as General Education Courses.  These are:

GES submitted a draft amendment to SD99-25 to EPC.  The amendment would require students to complete their General Education Area VI course at IPFW.  EPC has yet to act on this proposed amendment. 

 

The GES has made some progress on assessment of the program but have not yet completed the work.

The Grade Appeals Subcommittee has one appeal before it.  We are also considering a new grade appeal policy that will ensure fairness to all parties.  Of particular concern is the timing of appeals.  We are discussing how to establish that an appeal has been properly filed and the required steps taken in a timely manner.

Pursuant to Section 5.1.2 of the Bylaws of the Senate, this document will serve as the end-of-the-year committee report for the Library Sub-Committee.  The Sub-Committee approved two rounds of special needs requests totaling over $60,000 after researching and deliberating over the requests made by various departments.  The Sub-Committee also discussed issues related to the planning for a potential library addition based on details/issues/concerns raised in presentations by the architects.
