SUBJ: Division I "metrics" resolution: request for report from the University Resources Policy Committee (URPC) – for information only

DISPOSITION: To the URPC for action

Whereas the Senate passed the following resolution on March 26, 2001;

That the Senate charge the University Resources Policy Committee with establishing, in consultation with the Budgetary Affairs Subcommittee, the university administration, and the faculty at large, a set of quantitative and qualitative metrics that would accurately and fairly measure all aspects of the transition to Division I athletics. This set of metrics, reliable data associated with each and rationale for inclusion in the set shall be reported back to the Senate. This data will form the foundation of an informed discussion about university athletics.

And whereas, the Senate has received no report from the University Resources Policy Committee on these matters;

Therefore, be it resolved that the University Resources Policy Committee make a status report at the December Senate meeting describing progress toward meeting this charge and a timetable for completing the definition of the required set of metrics, collecting the data associated with them, and providing a rationale for their inclusion.
