MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
JACK D. COOK
MAY 13, 1923 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2002
Jack D. Cook, Professor Emeritus of Manufacturing Technology,
passed away on
September 30, 2002, and the community lost a dedicated
educator, professional engineer and loyal American. He served our University for over a decade,
after many years of industrial experience, and brought a wealth of practical knowledge
to the classroom for the benefit of our students. He is missed by his family and friends.
Jack was born in Grand
Rapids, Michigan in 1923 and
spent most of his life in the Midwest. He was a registered professional engineer and
worked in his profession at Bendix Aircraft Division and Magnavox
Corporation. After 27 years of
industrial experience, he joined IPFW August
21, 1974, and became program director of the Industrial Engineering
Technology program. He wrote several
books and articles on industrial engineering and statistical quality control,
and continued to serve his profession as a consultant to
many corporations. He served as a
chapter and a national officer of the American Society of Value Engineering,
and was a local chapter officer of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He further served the teaching profession as
a national representative of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers on the
Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Jack served his country in World
War II and received a Combat Infantryman’s Badge and a Purple Heart. His service at Bendix Aircraft and Magnavox
was an extension of his commitment to his country and its continued strength.
Jack is survived by his two
sons, John of Lake Mary, Florida and Thomas of Houston, Texas, as well as one
daughter, Maureen C. Rehmer, of Fort Wayne. He is also survived by two brothers, Gene of
Delano, Minnesota and Herbert of Baltimore, Maryland, and five
grandchildren. He was a member of St.
Charles Borromeo Catholic Church here in Fort Wayne.
