SUBJECT: Minority Report Regarding URPC’s Recommendation on the Move to

Division I Athletics

DATE: February 6, 2001

DISPOSITION: To the Presiding Officer for implementation

Contrary to the majority of the URPC, we are not persuaded that the feasibility study and accompanying documentation presented by the IPFW administration supports the rationale given for the move to Division I. We believe the materials put forth do not provide adequate substantiation of the position that going to Division I is the correct course to take at this time. Our reading of the administration’s proposal does not reveal sufficient or appropriate data to address the impact of this move on either the academic mission of the university or the long-term feasibility of supporting Division I status.

Resolved, That the Senate withhold its support for the move to Division I athletics until such time as it has been given the data necessary for making an informed decision.
