RE: Conference affiliation
WHEREAS, the Mid-Continent Conference has now formally invited IPFW to join its ranks (August 30, 2006); AND
WHEREAS, conference affiliation would be a tremendous benefit for IPFW and its student-athletes, in that it would provide better schedules, more recognition for student-athletes, opportunities to participate in NCAA Tournaments for all sports, more publicity for the university, and increased opportunities; AND
WHEREAS, the Subcommittee on Athletics (which is charged under Bylaw 5.3.4.1.8 with proposing, for the approval of the IPFW Faculty Senate, membership in athletic conferences) has already approved that IPFW accept membership in the Mid Continent Conference; AND
WHEREAS, the Student Affairs Committee (which is charged under Bylaw 5.3.4 with proposing, for the approval of the IPFW Faculty Senate, issues concerning intercollegiate athletics) concurs with the Subcommittee on Athletics that IPFW accept membership in the Mid Continent Conference;
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Fort Wayne Senate approve acceptance of the Mid-Continent Conference’s offer.

RE: Conference affiliation
WHEREAS, the Mid-Continent Conference advised IPFW in June 2006 that it wished to conduct a Site Visit of IPFW, which Site Visit could be prefatory to extending an offer to IPFW to join the Mid-Continent Conference in 15 of our 16 sponsored sports; AND
WHEREAS, the Mid-Continent Conference's Site Visit of IPFW was conducted on August 2-3-4, 2006, and, at that time, Mid-Continent officials advised IPFW that the conference would make a decision about IPFW's membership in early September; AND
WHEREAS, conference affiliation would be a tremendous benefit for IPFW and its student-athletes, in that it would provide better schedules, more recognition for student-athletes, opportunities to participate in NCAA Tournaments for all sports, more publicity for the university, and increased opportunities; AND
WHEREAS, the Subcommittee on Athletics is charged, under Bylaw 5.3.4.1.8, with proposing, for the approval of the IPFW Faculty Senate, membership in athletic conferences; and the Faculty Senate is scheduled to meet on September 11, 2006.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that, should the Mid-Continent Conference extend an offer to IPFW to join its conference, the Subcommittee on Athletics enthusiastically supports IPFW's membership in the Mid Continent Conference, and urges the Faculty Senate to approve same.
