SUBJECT: Academic Regulations During a Campus Emergency
DISPOSITION: To the Presiding Officer for implementation
WHEREAS, IPFW is developing an Emergency Preparedness Plan to guide campus operations in case of a significant emergency such as a flu pandemic (see Senate Reference 06-21 for further background); and
WHEREAS, such an emergency may cause significant disruption in the academic calendar and other academic operations; and
WHEREAS, certain academic policies and regulations (e.g. the academic calendar, late withdrawals, rules regarding incompletes, etc.) may need to be altered to allow for students to make timely and appropriate progress toward degree completion to the degree possible; and
WHEREAS, decisions about such changes should be made in as consultative a process as feasible given the emergency;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the VCAA (or designee), in consultation with Senate leadership (IU Speaker, Purdue Speaker, Presiding Officer), be authorized to make emergency policy changes in the academic regulations (e.g., academic calendar, dates for late withdrawals from classes, time limits for removals of incompletes, and the like) during the campus emergency period.
